Learn About the Power of Decision Making in Your Life [Video]

As we begin the year of 2022, the purpose of this channel is to share with you the coaching and consulting skills I have learned over the past few decades in my consulting practice. Helping people and organizations to grow has been my passion since the 1980’s. On this channel I want to share with you, “free of charge,” the skills, the lessons, and the experiences I have learned about human growth and potential. The aim of this channel is about developing your personal growth, and your awesome potential for self-improvement and achievement. Let’s begin!

In the future we will be talking about many skills and traits that are considered vital leadership qualities today. Some of these future topics will include:

  • Personal productivity skills
  • Enhanced communication abilities
  • Personal leadership development
  • Managerial and “team” development
  • Organizational leadership skills
  • Servant-leadership principles
  • Motivational expertise
  • Strategic leadership planning

And many, many more relevant topics.

But before we begin to talk about any of these topics we have to get “first things first” as the late Dr. Covey emphasized. Nothing will happen “on-purpose” in your life until you understand the power of “choices.” So, before we discuss anything else we must grasp the absolute need for us to make our own future choices, or decisions in life. We can’t change the past, but what we begin doing today will have a profound influence on our tomorrows.

According to the Psychology Today website in an article entitled “How Many Decisions Do We Make Each Day?”, it states that “some sources suggest that the average person makes an eye-popping 35,000 choices per day. Assuming that most people spend around seven hours per day sleeping and thus blissfully choice-free, that makes roughly 2,000 decisions per hour or one decision every two seconds.”

Now, the overwhelming number of these decisions are very minor, like should I put on brown socks or black socks.

Also, many of these micro-choices or decisions are actually more of an unconscious reflex. The kinds of choices we are talking about here are those higher-level decisions that are opportunities or potentially life-changing. Let’s continue to talk about these!

The “truth” is that one of two things happen in your life. Either you make your own decisions or someone or something else will make your decisions for you. In other words, either you chose the direction and major opportunities for your life or something else does. Here is how it works:

Everyone experiences a certain amount of “time and chance” that is outside of our control. For example, at age 49 I was diagnosed with leukemia while having an annual physical exam. Sometimes in life “compost happens,” and when that occurs we should never let it define who we are.

A successful life is one that accepts the existence of “time and chance” but makes every decision we possibly can within our control. Do you know that most people don’t do this? Most individuals leave virtually every major life decision or opportunity up to “time and chance.” This includes their career, their relationships, their finances, and their future.

They base their major decisions on convenience, ease, or the first thing that shows up or that becomes available, rather than a plan.

So, to put it in a nutshell, either we pro-actively make our own choices in life or we leave those choices to the mercy of “time and chance.”

Here is the most important thing I will tell you in this video today. “Time and Chance” doesn’t care about your dreams, or personal desires. It’s just takes us to an arbitrary place. Now, some get lucky and wake up in a place that is desirable and they are content. But, the majority of people don’t like the unplanned direction that “time and chance” takes them. Like a bottle bobbing aimlessly in an ocean, most people allow outside forces to control their lives. It doesn’t have to be this way. As author John C. Maxwell has put it, “Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.”
Sooner or later, everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences.

So, before we even begin to talk about “setting goals” or a “personal mission statement” we must first understand the power of choice and make a firm decision to seize control of life by making our own choices, our own decisions, rather than allowing random chance to make them for us.

If you are willing to make this commitment, this channel is for you because you now have now opened up the capacity to change and take your life to another level.
